We are committed to being an anti-racist and truly inclusive place to work. Our employees come from a range of backgrounds with varied skills and experience, and lots of employees are local to the community we support. We are actively seeking to bring people with different lived experiences into the organisation, to create a workplace that is welcoming of all aspects of identity and enables everyone to thrive.

Inclusive recruitment

We ensure we have an inclusive approach to recruitment. We will only ask for a qualification when a role requires specialist knowledge (for example some of teaching or advice roles). We also no longer use CV’s to shortlist to remove potential bias from the selection process, instead we use a system called Hireful, shortlisting applications based on responses to pre-set questions relevant to each role. Finally, we ensure we have mixed interview panels and are proactively try to make interviews more accessible for candidates.

Application process

You will need to answer around 4 questions on our online application form on Hireful, about your relevant experience relating to the role and why you want to work at the centre. It’s important that you answer these questions fully, showcasing examples of your skills and experience (both professional and personal) as we won’t see your CV until after we have scored all of the answers and shortlisted the applicants to interview.

Why work here...?

We know the working at the centre is very rewarding, as you will be contributing to creating lasting change for the community, our benefits however formally recognise our employees for the important work that they all do everyday  – if you have any questions about any of our benefits just ask!

The centre is based in the heart of East London surrounded by our beautiful gardens, we put real value in having people together in the centre regularly to ensure that our services are accessible to the community, however we want to provide the flexibility for you to be able to do your best work so operate a hybrid working policy. We expect everyone to be in the centre for at least 60% of your working week – but this does vary depending on specific teams’ needs.

We have regular social lunches, festivals and celebrations throughout the year, both internally for employees and jointly with the community

We know that time off is equally as important at being in a job you enjoy! We have a generous holiday entitlement of 27 days, we give everyone an additional 3 days off between the Christmas and New Years Day bank holidays and a day off for your birthday. We also have 2 Celebration Days a year, these days are to recognise Eid, as the majority of our employees celebrate Eid, however these can be used for any other religious holidays throughout the year or if you don’t hold a faith anything else that is significant to you. Finally, if after 7 years you feel like you’re ready for a break you can take a sabbatical for up to 6 months

We offer a contributory pension scheme of up to 7% matched contributions and enhanced parental leave schemes. We also offer interest free loans to support with travel to the Centre either for bike or season ticket. You can access 24 hour support via our Employee Assistance Programme, and we have enhanced occupational sick pay of full pay for up to four weeks. If you are off sick for a period of time when you’re ready to come back we will support you with a manageable transition back to work, with the support of Occupational Health. Volunteer with the Bromley by Bow Centre

We are looking for motivated volunteers to provide high quality support across the centre! The work we do at the Centre has a huge impact for the community. We have lots of amazing members of staff at the Centre creating a difference every day – but we also want to create opportunities for people who want to support our work but may not be ready for employment just yet

What you can gain from volunteering:

An opportunity to learn more about work and make a difference to the community

Gain vital experience and learn new skills, meet new people and develop connections

The opportunity to give back to the community and continue to develop our services – we’ve heard this is particularly important for people that have previously accessed some our services/programmes

You can also receive support from the People/Employment team to support with future job search (guidance on interviewing and CV writing etc.)
